PHYSICAL CONDITIONING AND PREPARATION

 
 

Fitness components

The main focus points behind the physical conditioning of ITF and Junior players are the development of such physical qualities as:

  • endurance and resistance

  • speed and strength

  • agility and flexibility

  • balance and coordination

Trainings are built around these components of fitness as all of them play a key role in tennis and padel.

Periodisation

All fitness trainings for ITF and Junior tennis and padel players are organised in terms of the principles of periodisation, namely, of macrocycle of training and practice adjusted to players’ yearly training programmes consisting of competition and preparation. The volume and intensity of training vary according to the player’s competitive season.

Training variety

Training sessions take place in the gym, on a tennis court or on the beach. Each training setting focuses on the development of different physical qualities and, at the same time, adds variety to fitness sessions.

 

Optimising performance

A training programme for every player is devised in such a way so as to optimise their overall performance.

It aims to improve the player’s general physical conditioning and serves as specific preparation for tennis and padel, taking into account the specificity of these individual sports.

Managing fatigue

A fitness training for a given player not only factors in their tournament schedule, but also general health and lifestyle issues, which help to vary accordingly the volume and intensity of training. Such an approach crucially contributes to minimising the risk of overtraining.

Preventing injuries

Devising training sessions in a way that they promote the overall health of the player and prevent them from getting injured is one of the key factors for efficient training and performance.

Each training programme allows for the inclusion of injury prevention exercises and recovery time.
